ACS-NSA’s Demands to the Africa Climate Summit

ACS-NSA's Demands to the Africa Climate Summit

In a resounding call to action, the Africa Climate Summit Non-State Actors (ACS-NSA) have voiced their expectations and redlines for the upcoming Africa Climate Summit. These non-state actors, deeply committed to a just and equitable transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient future, are demanding that African leaders rise to the occasion and champion their cause.

The ACS-NSA’s demands encompass critical issues such as acknowledging the climate emergency, safeguarding the rights and livelihoods of citizens, and upholding principles of climate justice, gender equality, and intergenerational equity. They also insist on developed nations fulfilling their historical responsibility by providing essential support for adaptation, mitigation, and loss and damage in Africa. Additionally, the group strongly opposes false solutions that could undermine African communities’ rights and sovereignty, including carbon markets, geoengineering, nuclear energy, and shared responsibility principles. As a collective, they emphasize the need for a just transition to renewable energy, ensuring energy access for marginalized communities while prioritizing ownership and participation. Ultimately, ACS-NSA urges African leaders to prioritize the well-being of the people over political and economic interests, paving the way for a sustainable and equitable future.
